It’s a critical business gift to do things quickly but not rashly. Too slow is often very painful and too quick often proves to be fatal.
Anyone who learned biology at school must have come across the afore mentioned theory of ‘natural selection’. Of course, most people don’t give it a second thought after leaving school but for those of us who do, I suspect the great majority find it almost impossible to believe that a process based on random genetic change can possibly have resulted in the human form over the small period of time that life has existed on this planet. However, natural selection is much faster than we think and when natural selection is playing a role in business, change can be very fast indeed.
Note: These small genetic and often random changes are what w call mutation. It’s actually a fact that we are all descended from mutants and in fact, we are all mutants belonging to families of mutants!
To survive and flourish in this new world needs a balance of two things – intelligence and speed, but these two can be interesting bed fellows, something I’ll come back to in the next blog.
Note -just heard that HP have bought Vertica – seems odd that just having announced a huge partnership with Microsoft on the appliance front they now have their own product to ship. Reminds me of the announcement of HPs doomed version of Exadata, announced just when their own product, Neoview, was needing all the help it could get!!
